Jury Duty

What a waste of my day!  I had to go to downtown Houston on Tuesday for jury duty.  It is our civic duty, but this was just a waste of my time, 35 other people's time and the tax payers money.  It was over the placement of a dumpster!  I told them that it was insane to be there over a dumpster and they booted me out!  I kinda' wish they had let me on the jury.  Oh well...I wasn't able to get anything done for the blog, but tomorrow' will be really, really good.  Promise!
I did get to read quite a bit though, so I guess it was ok.  But the marble benches...hard on this old behinney and cold!

More retreat pictures

Everyone had such a great time at retreat.  It's ashamed it's over.  The good news is that Veronica's retreat group meets 4 times a year and they have such a great time at retreat.  The group is from all over, quilters come from the Houston area, the Dallas area, Waco, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Sometimes this is the only time they get to see each other.  So they really look forward to these great retreats. This retreat had three newbies.  Welcome to our group!

This was made by Elsa, a newbie, it's for her guild challenge.

This is Ann's quilt.

This is Veronica's top.

Another one of Veronica's top.  Both of these were exchanges from a group that meets at Fabrics Etc. in Webster, Texas.  Winnie is the fearless group leader.  This is also a great group.

This is Veronica's new light.  The girls at retreat bring 2 gifts to exchange in a white elephant game. There is a lot of stealing, and lots of laughter.  Soooooo...... till April, when the next retreat is .  The group will try a new place in Huntsville, Texas, it's called 12 Pines.  This retreat was a Margie's retreat house in La Grange, Texas.  Yes, La Grange was made famous by Marvin Zindler and the Chicken Ranch.  Texas is full of surprises!

Bay Area Quilt Guild

Wow, we had such a great time at Bay Area Quilt Guild Tuesday night.  They made us feel so at home.  They got such a kick out of this quilt. You should have heard the laughter, it made Veronica feel so good.  She wasn't sure if they would get her humor on "yellow snow"!

There are quite a few that meet at Luby's for dinner before the meeting, so we got a chance to sit and talk with some of the members before the meeting.  What a great time!  I wish this guild was closer so we could join and become a member.
Veronica had over 40 quilts that were all made from her 9 patch monthly exchange group.  It was such a fun group.  Hopefully we'll get back to the guild for another visit.

We're off to retreat

Just a sampling of what we're taking to retreat.  We've got 3 suitcases full of stuff to work on.  We'll be showing you finished projects as we get them done.  How about you, do you go to retreat?  We love them, we have so much fun, we laugh and eat and stay up half the night.  It's just a lot of fun, Think about getting a group together and doing  a retreat if you've never been on one.

Looky, Looky, Looky

Looky what we got from Quilters Dream Batting.  A box of batting for door prizes at the Rocky Mountain Quilt festival in August.  They sent us 8 different kinds and they sent us some stuffing as well, 10 packages, so we will have some great door prizes.  I hope we see you there.  We are working on our website for the show, it will hopefully be finished in two weeks.  Who knew how difficult these darn websites are.

This is made from recycled bottles!  Pretty cool.

Veronica's Christmas Present

This is Veronica's present from her daughter.  Do I need to say anymore?

This is only 1/4 of it, it's pretty big, it will cover a queen size bed.  We don't know who made it or when.  She found it at an antique store and paid $15.00 for it.  What a find.  It does have a couple of little stains on it, so we'll use Sew Clean on it and spray it with Sew Fresh to freshen it up, but it is truly wonderful.  Veronica was so happy.

Here is a close up of one of the blocks

and another

and another.

Aren't these fabrics great????????/

It is all hand quilted.  This is a close up.

Wow, this is just amazing!

What do you think?

So what do you think?  This is Bella Garden, Veronica decided she just wanted to do something a little different with it, so she pieced 3 big pieces of fabric together and fused everything down,.

Here is a close up of the flowers.  Veronica will be teaching the flowers in a class in Florida in February, so this quilt will be winging it's way over there today.  She just had to show it off to you first.

Check out froggie!  He's so cute.

Tomorrow we'll show you what Veronica got for Christmas, you won't want to miss it.
