A Look in "The Box"

Where has the time gone?  Oh, yes, we've been busy quilting away.  Trying to empty "The Box". Well, let me tell you about "The Box".  It's just an ordinary white box that says UFO'S 1990's.  At first, I thought it was from outer space, but then Veronica explained that it was a box of unfinished objects.  So why isn't it called UO?  Right?  Even this bear knows that unfinished is one word.  Silly humans.  So, anyway, in this box there were lots of unfinished quilt projects.

Veronica pulled out something she called a watercolor quilt.  Looked like a bunch of squares to me.  She said it was a bunch of squares but when she finished it, it was a really cute wreath quilt.  She said it's a little more yellow than she wanted, but she's happy that it's done.  Well, at least the top is done.

She also found some quilts partially completed from a week of classes with Trudie Hughes, way back in 1993!  Now that's like a thousand years ago.  She said one only needed the border, so she got that one done.  She said it was already cut for her.  She had 4 others that were partially sewn together and some that were cut.

She found some paper piecing papers, she said they would be little stars when put together.

She's been happily sewing every day, and half the night on her Juki DX7, she's in hog heaven now that she's got her Juki to sew on.  She says her Juki is the gift that keeps giving.  It gives her hours of fun, fun, fun.  I hear her singing I love my Juki, I love my Juki, I love my Juki.  Every once in a while, I hear say, I love that the thread cutter is on the foot pedal.  She says this saves her so much time.  And the light is so very bright. You can see everything! Oh and that presser foot that comes up when she stops sewing, it's amazing!!!  She was up to 4 this morning sewing.  I even took some pictures, they were kinda dark, but she's at it again, so I'll get some more this morning.

Stay tuned to see the rest of the quilts from "The Box" as she finishes them.

Quilting on the Island!

I'm back!! I have been on many adventures since my last post. We've had so many changes in the past few years its had to keep up with, but I'm back and ready to talk quilting and traveling!

I went to a Mardi Gras party a while back and I really enjoyed the atmosphere, so I kept the party going, moving poolside for the summer.

Last week Veronica and I had a Quiltsmart Mondo/Midi/Bitty Class at the Island Quilt Guild in Galveston, TX. I say "we", but once we crossed the bridge onto the Island, I left Veronica to go check out this "blue water" they've been having while she headed on to teach the class. Lucky for me, I had already gotten a base tan at our home pool, so after a little sunscreen, I sat back to enjoy the sunshine while she and the class attendees made some awesome bags. (I really should have had Veronica make me one to hold my beach towel and sunglasses).

If you haven't made a Mondo/Midi/Bitty bage yet, what are you waiting for? Veronica teaches classes, so if you are interested in having your Bee, Guild or group host a class you can email her at VLCox@live.com. We've made many over the years, but these are some of our favorites.

Have you made a Quiltsmart bag? What's your favorite style to make?

TaaaDaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

All done!

Well, ok, Veronica had all these yellow and white 9 patches, and what color does snow turn to when you p.. in it?  You got it, yellow!  so you see where her inspiration came from.

Here is the pattern she used.  Veronica is going to use her embroidery machine for the words and she is going to have them on all four borders.  So, remember, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 she will be at bay Area Quilt Guild in Houston.  Hope to see you there.

Almost Done

I hope everybody had a great Christmas day, we took the day off, and as soon as Veronica gets up she'll finish Wednesday's project.

Why is she working on this so diligently?  Well,on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, she'll be the guest speaker at Bay Area Quilt Guild in Houston,  They meet at Mount Olive Lutheran Church located at 10310 Scarsdale Boulevard, Houston, Texas  77089.  She's got lots of quilts to show, so come on down to visit the guild and check out her quilts.  She has mounds and mounds of blocks that haven't been put together, so she thought she would try to get some new quilt tops to add to her lecture. See you there and don't forget to check back about lunch time to see her top.

Doesn't this picture look like her class would be the best class ever.  looks like she is having so much fun!!!  Ok, this is not really her classroom, but doesn't she look like she has the most fun.

I even have a picture with her.  She fell in love with me!!!  all the women do!!!

Saturday's Class

What a great time we had in our class at Cactus Quilts on Saturday.  We worked on two different patterns.  One was our Streak of Lightening and the other was a mystery 5" charm pack challenge. Here are some pictures of our class and our quilts.    Sorry, but we were so busy having fun we forgot to take pictures.

Here are a couple of pictures of classes that will be taught on the Cactus Quilts quilting cruise.  We'll have that info for you on Wednesday, so check back.

This is the Shop Hop quilt that Elsa made.  It's hanging at Cactus Quilts.

Here is Elsa hiding behind the table runner that she made using charm squares.

Saturday's Class

Veronica will be teaching Streak of Lightning on Saturday at Cactus Quilts.  Come join us.

This is only part of it.  Veronica had some of these 3" finished 9 patches left over from another project. You don't have to make 9 patches.  You can do a 3" square or 4 patches if you wish.  We're pretty easy.  Yes, I, Jaggie the Bear, will be there.  See you there.

See you right back here on Monday.

Stripping class

Did you miss stripping with us at Cactus Quilts?  You missed a great time.  Lois and Janie M. were there, so you know it was fun, fun, fun.

Here is Lois and a couple of her finished blocks.  She cut a lot of blocks and Janie sewed.

They both cut the same shape, but put them together differently for 2 completely different looking blocks.

Here's Janie playing with her cut pieces to see how she want sot put them together.  She got 4 blocks done really fast.  Here is a picture of one of them.  See the difference between hers and Lois' blocks?

It's not to late to sign up with a class with Veronica over at Cactus Quilts.  She's got Scrap Happy and Butterfly Kisses this month.  We'll keep you updated.

Let's Strip!

Wanna learn to strip???????????  Come join us at Cactus Quilts for Strip club class #1.  We'll be stripping on September 6, 2015 starting at 10:30 a.m.  All you need are 2 1/2" strips.  Yes, that kind of stripping.  It's fun.  We'll sew to our hearts contents.  We'll have several books from Bear Paw for you to choose from.  Brenda Henning is the designer of Strip Therapy, we've got books from her first to her 10th book.  Here are a couple of quilts from the books.

This one has circles that are stripped and placed on top of stripped blocks.  Pretty cool design.

Here is a stripped quilt using diagonal sashing.

This is my favorite, there is actually another one, but we failed to get that picture.

These 2 quilts are exactly the same, just different fabric placement.  So come check it out and have fun playing with your strips.  We'll all be stripping.

We will have all of these books at the class and a few others for you to check out and pick the one you want to make.  So come have fun with us.  Call Cactus Quilts at 409-965-9778 for more details.

See you there...

Idaho Beauty class

We had our Idaho Beauty class at Cactus Quilts this past Saturday and what a great time we had. This bear is getting to be a downright good teacher.  We had a great time with some of our regulars in the class.  We had  great time, as usual.  Here are some pictures.  Of course, here I am at the front of the class.

Here are Mary and Susan.

Piles of 4 patches.  Susan is half way done, she just needs her half square triangles and she can put them together.

Here's Mary's block.  Ready to sew it together.  Very bright colors, these are the ones Veronica used in Carla's quilt.

All done.  Do you see where Mary stuck me??????????????????????
Down here.

Was it something I said?

They are a tough class, I need a nap.
