Veronica's Christmas Present

This is Veronica's present from her daughter.  Do I need to say anymore?

This is only 1/4 of it, it's pretty big, it will cover a queen size bed.  We don't know who made it or when.  She found it at an antique store and paid $15.00 for it.  What a find.  It does have a couple of little stains on it, so we'll use Sew Clean on it and spray it with Sew Fresh to freshen it up, but it is truly wonderful.  Veronica was so happy.

Here is a close up of one of the blocks

and another

and another.

Aren't these fabrics great????????/

It is all hand quilted.  This is a close up.

Wow, this is just amazing!

What do you think?

So what do you think?  This is Bella Garden, Veronica decided she just wanted to do something a little different with it, so she pieced 3 big pieces of fabric together and fused everything down,.

Here is a close up of the flowers.  Veronica will be teaching the flowers in a class in Florida in February, so this quilt will be winging it's way over there today.  She just had to show it off to you first.

Check out froggie!  He's so cute.

Tomorrow we'll show you what Veronica got for Christmas, you won't want to miss it.

Looky, looky, looky what I got

Looky what we got in the mail.  Remember 2 months ago I told you that we were the new owners of the Rocky Mountain Quilt Festival in Loveland, Colorado.  Well we've had some great vendors send us door prizes for the show.  This is one of the things we received this week.  I think we're going to to do "Looky, looky, looky" every Monday.

Janome is one of our Diamond sponsors and we got this great machine from them to give away as a door prize.

Quilting treasures is also a Diamond sponsor, so wait until you see what we get from them.  I can tell you it's yummmmmy.!

We've received boxes from Quilter's Dream Batting and from Studio E as well.  We will keep you updated as "stuff" comes in.

TaaaDaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

All done!

Well, ok, Veronica had all these yellow and white 9 patches, and what color does snow turn to when you p.. in it?  You got it, yellow!  so you see where her inspiration came from.

Here is the pattern she used.  Veronica is going to use her embroidery machine for the words and she is going to have them on all four borders.  So, remember, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 she will be at bay Area Quilt Guild in Houston.  Hope to see you there.

Almost Done

I hope everybody had a great Christmas day, we took the day off, and as soon as Veronica gets up she'll finish Wednesday's project.

Why is she working on this so diligently?  Well,on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, she'll be the guest speaker at Bay Area Quilt Guild in Houston,  They meet at Mount Olive Lutheran Church located at 10310 Scarsdale Boulevard, Houston, Texas  77089.  She's got lots of quilts to show, so come on down to visit the guild and check out her quilts.  She has mounds and mounds of blocks that haven't been put together, so she thought she would try to get some new quilt tops to add to her lecture. See you there and don't forget to check back about lunch time to see her top.

Add a Few Trees...

We'll finish Friday, come back and see what we did.

A Little Tweak Here and a Little Tweak There and We're Almost Done

We need a few more trees and, hmmmmmmmmm, something else..  We'll keep working on it.

Added a tree

Added Snow

Yellow 9 patches, What To Do?

So what do you do with a pile of yellow 9 patches?  Well, you make a quilt, of course.  Here they are all laid out on Veronica's floor.  She said she knew she had a pattern that would be perfect for these yellow 9 patch blocks.

So today we'll work on it and show you our progress as we go. She decided to do a fusible applique in the middle of the 9 patches.  What else would she do?  So here is her background.  Looks like a bird in the middle of that blue, but alas, it's not.  It's her fish mobile thingy she has hanging off of the bottom of her ceiling fan.

This is what we've got, we'll add more pictures throughout the day.  I know, it's different, but we thought we would be unpredictable today.  Check back before lunch to see where we're at.

Investigative Reporter Jaggie on "My Dresden Plate"

Here it is, my Dresden Plate.  My one sad little Dresden Plate.  I took several on the cruise this past week, I thought I'd have it all done, a whole quilt, but sadly no, I barely got one block partially done. Yes, we took both grandchildren, they're 4, we had a great time, we marched in Dr. Seuss's parade, went to the puppet show with all those towel animals that they make and put on your bed.  Santa was on the cruise, we took pictures with him, had a pirate party, went swimming, ate ice cream, hung over the balcony, well, not too far, as I'm pretty short.  More like I looked over the edge.  We had a green eggs and ham breakfast, I ate normal food, like an omelet that was yellow, not green.  But the kids had fun.  Dinner was exciting, those waiters spoiled those kids to no end.  The waiters sang and danced for us every night except the first night.  It was great!

Next cruise is coming up in 3 weeks, and I'm sure I'll get much more quilting done on that one.  It's a quilting cruise and so I'll have a machine in my room and no parades, no green eggs and ham and no pirate parties.  Sounds kinda' dull to grandma after this great family cruise.  Well, the next family cruise leaves Dec. of next year.  I guess I'll leave the quilting home.

Veronica, as told to

We're late, sorry

Yes, we're late, today, but we had a really full weekend.  We had two Christmas days with family. One was at Veronica's house and the other was at her mother-in-laws house.  Wow what a great time. There were lots of kids running around, and this brings me to Sew Fresh and Sew Clean.  There was a baby who wet the bed, and it was not anybody's bed, it was Veronica's bed.  So she stripped the bed, sprayed Sew Fresh, and the odor went away.  However, "the ring" didn't.  You know what I'm talking about, so she took the Sew Clean and sprayed that on the bed and "the ring" was gone.

Sew Clean, Spot and Stain Remover                              Sew Clean

Here are the bottles Veronica used, just in case you haven't seen them.  They come with sprayer, so you just point and shoot, so too say.  Well, this bear is off to finish shopping for the holidays.

Yummy batiks

What do you do when you have ends of strips left over from strippy batik quilts?  Stand back and watch.  Veronica had a crazy idea, yes, this has been a crazy week.  She's going to cut them into skinny strips and then she's going to make...

something.

Stay tuned, she'll have one on Monday.  See you then,

Crazy Veronica

So again, we found these when we were looking for her lost pattern.  She was going to make a flying geese quilt with different blocks that use flying geese units.  She found a book that had flying geese blocks in it and now she has collected more than 150 patterns for different blocks.  She wants to make a quilt, or I guess several with all of her different blocks.  So these are the first ones on her journey.  Is she crazy or what?  Well, if you know her, you know the answer to that question.

She must have been in a yellow mood.

These are blue and yellow.  You know she's got to have her blues in there.

More blue and yellow.  I think she's got them pinned together in groups for her quilts.  What a crazy lady she is!

Back to her blue and whites.

Bags of flying geese units.  At least she's using different colors.  I was afraid they were all going to be the same color.  How boring would that be.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm????????

More "found blocks"

So this is another exchange that Veronica did.  This was way before 2001, how do we know, well, because she didn't live in this house when she made these blocks for the exchange.  They were building this house, so it was late 1999 or 2000.  Actually we think she this this several times, because she has four big bags of blocks.  Oooooo, say that real fast three times.  Ok, never mind, you know this bear has a mind that wanders.

Pretty blues and yellows.

We took these out of the baggies.

These too.

Is it my eyes, or did I take a blurry picture?  Must be my camera.  I'm an excellent photographer!

Well see how many quilts she makes from these.  Can you guess where these are now?  You're right!!!  Her January quilt cruise box.  Stay tuned...

Last year's Mystery class with Bonnie Hunter

Last January, Veronica and her two friends Susan and Susan went off to Fabric Fanatics in Plano, Texas.  They were going to take a class with Bonnie Hunter and it was a Mystery!  So they loaded up all three of their machines, tons of fabric strips, because they were all made with 2 1/2" strips, clothes and of course snacks and off they went.  They spent two nights in the hotel and had a blast in the class.  Veronica was sick, so this is all she got done in the class.  One block put together and parts for another one.  She wasn't sure about the orange and she really doesn't like black, so...you guessed it, she never finished.  Well, she says she's going to, so this is going in her "cruise" box for January as well.  We'll see how much she gets done.

She's not sure about the cheddar, but I kinda' like it. What do you think?  It does use a lot of scraps, so that's good.  Maybe she'll get her pile down.  I'll bet she is going to use some of the strips we saw on yesterday's blog.  What do you bet she will?  A bowl of berries?  I'm in serious need of berries.
She forgets that this bear gets hungry when she gets into her quilting.

See you soon...
